PUTTING ON LIVE SHOWS FOR YOUR PODCAST

So you want to take your podcast to the next level and to a live audience. We love to see how the podcast industry has developed over the years, from something that started off as a mere hobby, to now turning into an actual business! With the podcast space becoming more competitive, live podcast events are a great way to grow your audience and make your podcast stand out from the rest.

Here’s how to bring your podcast to a live event space.

1 - PLAN CONTENT IN ADVANCE

The planning stage is key. This isn’t just planning what topics you’re going to talk about in your regular podcast episodes, we’re talking in-depth, detailed planning. Will you have a script to loosely follow? How many guests will attend? Where is the venue? How long will the show run for? How will you market the event? Will you have guests coming to the show? These are just some of the questions you should be asking yourself before you start taking action.

2 - FINDING THE RIGHT VENUE

Whatever the vibe of your podcast, you will need to find the perfect venue. There are a few important things to consider when finding your venue such as, capacity for your audience, how much it costs to rent out the space for the day, do they provide all the facilities you need for the running of the show? e.g. lighting, sound, green screen if needed.

3 - CREATE AN EXPERIENCE

This will be the most important part of your show. Venue or no venue, your audience is there to see you give the best performance you ever have! How will you make this event different to your audience simply listening from their phone? How will you interact with them? What kind of atmosphere do you want to create?

Consider things like music for your introduction, certain props to bring your performance to life, maybe having a green screen to create the perfect visuals. But remember, less is more. You don’t want to overwhelm your audience by doing too much.

4 - YOUR MARKETING STRATEGY

Without the right marketing strategy, how will anyone know about your event? The last thing you want is to have little to no guests show up after you put in so much effort to get things up and running. There are various ways to promote your events such as social media, leaflets, posters, radio, word of mouth, a ticketed event website, and more. It may be good to utilise all of these channels, however, always focus on the one where most of your audience is. Make sure to give your audience enough notice prior to the event. A ticket pre-sale may be a good idea.

Now that you’ve got a better idea of how to prep and plan, start putting these steps into action, and you will be well on your way to putting on your first live event!

Good luck!
